Hey Kosher is a free app and website that reads the kosher certification on a package and shows a verdict from your tradition, with its source. It is a reader of certifications and a library of rulings, not a religious authority.
Quick how-to
- Scan a barcode. Open the app, point the camera at the barcode and hold steady. You can also type the number.
- Choose your tradition. Open settings and pick the tradition you follow. Every verdict updates to match.
- Add a product. If we do not know a product, the app offers to add it. Take three photos: the front, the ingredients and the kosher symbol.
- Report a correction. If something looks wrong, tell us from the product page. See how corrections work.
Common questions
Why does a verdict say “needs review”?
It means we cannot be sure yet. The label may be unclear, the symbol may be missing, or the record is waiting for a check. Please read the package itself, and ask your rabbi if you are unsure.
Where do verdicts come from?
From what is printed on the package and from published rulings for your tradition. Code applies the rules, so the same product always gives the same answer. Every verdict names its source. Read more in how verdicts work.
I denied camera permission. What now?
Open your phone’s settings, find Hey Kosher, and turn the camera on. Then come back and scan again. Until then, you can type the barcode number instead.
My product was not found.
Not every product is in the library yet. Add it in about a minute, and everyone who scans it after you gets an answer. Double-check that the barcode number is right, too.
